Food and Drink

Cafe Mondo, 5 Grove Ave, E15 1EL. 2 mins from USS. Good for lunch.

Stratford Shopping Centre (not Westfield’s) 2 mins from USS. Lots of independent eateries in the area called Market Village. Very, very cheap!!!

The shopping mall itself is a very interesting place. It is open 24hrs and after the shops close, a community of skaters, dancers and break-dancers, body poppers, the homeless and drug-takers take over from the fruit and veg-sellers. It’s quite a spectacle.

Further away, for dinner, the British national dish – Indian food (which is actually mostly Bangladeshi and Pakistani), there are lots of very good quality and cheap choices in East London.

The two most famous are: Tayyabs 83-89 Fieldgate St, Whitechapel, E1 1JU, and Needoo Grill (Indian) 87 New Rd, Whitechapel, London E1 1HH. Bring your own alcohol (BYO) at both. Whitechapel tube station.

Dosa world. 46 Hanbury St, E1 5JL. Aldgate East tube station.

Dishoom is more expensive and very popular. 7 Boundary St, E2 7JE. Shoreditch Overground station.
